Lead Classroom Teachers
Dear Victory Academy Families,
Relocating from Manhattan Beach, California, Jenny Petersen joins the Victory Academy Staff as a lead classroom teacher for the 2010-2011 school year.
Jenny Petersen

Jenny has worked with students in K-5 classrooms with a variety of learning styles and differences, including Autism Spectrum Disorders (Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and PDD-NOS) hearing and vision impairments, Down Syndrome, Prader-Willi Syndrome, and Cerebral Palsy. Jenny’s ten years of experience in education has provided her with rigorous hands-on training in ABA, Floortime, sensory integration, special diets, differentiation, curriculum planning and implementation, and reading and math interventions.
Jenny believes that her role as a teacher is to facilitate a love of learning through engagement, fun, and creating a sense of community with her students. She is a dedicated, compassionate, joyful, and enthusiastic teacher who looks at unique learning differences as something to celebrate. She is thrilled to be joining Victory Academy’s team of talented staff and will move to Portland in July 2010.
Ashley Hatchett

Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and hands-on experience to Victory Academy, as she has worked with children with unique learning differences for over five years.
Ashley has received training from local area specialists, Kelli Eickelberg (SLP) and Megan Coate (OT), and attended a 2009 workshop with Rosemary White, nationally known for her work with occupational therapy and the DIR/Floortime model. Ashley is trained in Theory of Mind/Social Thinking (Michelle Garcia Winter and Carol Gray) and incorporates social thinking practices into all areas of her work. Finally, Ashley worked closely with Kristina Montgomery, BCBA, from March 2008-August 2009, offering one-on-one home-based therapy to children with differing challenges and gifts. This intensive and diverse work has allowed Ashley to improve her skills in collecting data, developing behavior plans, and creating individualized lessons for each child.
Ashley also holds experience with and working knowledge of Sensory Integration, the GFCF Diet, the SCD Diet, Hyperbaric Oxygen, the DAN Protocol, Amy Yasko's Protocol, and Homeopathy.
Ashley grew up in Tualatin and graduated from PSU in June 2009 with a degree in Social Science. She spent her last year at PSU earning a Certificate of Autism Endorsement and taking courses in elementary education, including curriculum design (elementary math, science, and language arts), and classroom management.
In her spare time, Ashley volunteers at the Autism Society of Oregon as the Co-Facilitator of the Girl Power Group. She is a teacher of 3rd-8th graders at her church, developing curriculum and leading activities. She spends every other weekend facilitating a playdate between two boys who speak through writing, due to their apraxia.
Aside from her impressive credentials, Ashley is a warm, engaging person who simply loves children and the art of teaching kids with learning differences. She possesses an extraordinary gift for engaging all children--even the most reluctant--and has made an enormous difference to many children and their families.

New Praise for our School:
"Our biggest heartache as Ezra's parents has been trying to find a place for him where he can both belong - be honored and appreciated for what a fantastic, unique, intelligent, and beautiful person he is - and also get the encouragement he needs to push beyond his comfort level, and to reach his potential. What a relief for us to know that Victory Academy is this place."-

Victory Academy believes that all children with unique learning differences can reach their fullest potential through an education based in both structure and playful engagement. Each child's particular strengths and challenges are constantly assessed to direct the child's teachers in selecting best practice teaching methodologies for the individual child.
We also maintain that all students learn with greater ease when their natural interests and affinities are honored throughout the school day.
